Monasterace, also known as Monasteraci in Calabrese or Monasteraki in Greco-Calabro, is a charming Italian town situated along the Ionian coast of Calabria, near Punta Stilo. It lies at the northernmost tip of the Locride region, straddling the provinces of Reggio Calabria and Catanzaro. Monasterace is divided into two distinct areas:

Marina: This coastal zone houses the remains of the ancient city of Kaulon, a thriving Magna Graecia colony. Kaulon faced fierce competition from larger powers such as Croton and Locris, as it vied for market dominance. Additionally, it contended with external threats, including a siege by the Syracusans, who eventually destroyed the city.

Borgo: Perched atop a small hill, the upper part of Monasterace boasts a quaint medieval village. Here, you can marvel at some of Calabria’s most significant architectural works.
