Calabrian bergamot

Bergamot is a citrus fruit classified as Citrus bergamia Risso which belongs to the genus Citrus, family Rutaceae and is defined as a hybrid of Citrus aurantium and Citrus limon L.
It grows almost exclusively in Calabria, Italy, along the southeastern coast in the Reggio area

The fruit of the bergamot

Bergamot is a fruit with a greenish-yellow skin, very acidic, with a fresh and elegant aroma. Its most important product is the essential oil of bergamot extracted by cold mechanical processing.
Bergamot essential oil is mainly used in the international perfume industry, as it not only has the function of fixing the aromatic bouquets of perfumes, but is also used in combination with other essences. In the food industry, bergamot essential oil is used as a flavoring ingredient in many products such as tea, confectionery and soft drinks (bergamot essential oil distillate is preferred).
